Total Knee Replacement (TKR)

What is a robotic knee replacement?

A robotic knee replacement is a procedure whereby robotic/computer assistance is used to improve the precision and accuracy of the bone cuts and prosthesis positioning in knee replacement surgery. Dr Gomez controls and operates the robotic arm at all times and is responsible for performing all other aspects of the surgery such as the incision, surgical approach and wound closure.

Is robotic knee replacement better?

The scientific evidence suggests that robotic TKR surgery has a number of advantages including improved accuracy and precision of bone cuts and prosthesis positioning. Studies have also shown:

  • Less post operative pain
  • Less post operative blood loss
  • Less bone loss during surgery
  • Faster recovery
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Improved early functional recovery
  • Better flexion range at discharge

Do medicare and private health funds cover robotic TKR?

Yes robotic joint replacement surgery is covered by both meidcare and private health funds. There is no additional out of pocket expense to you, the patient.

How much does robotic TKR cost?

Robotic knee surgery is a highly specialised form of surgery which requires sophisticated equipment and extensive training. Dr Gomez provides this service at no additional cost to the patient compared to a standard total knee replacement

Total Hip Replacement (THR)

What is a robotic hip replacement?

A robotic hip replacement is a procedure whereby robotic/computer assistance is used to improve the precision and accuracy of the bone preparation and prosthesis positioning in hip replacement surgery. Dr Gomez controls and operates the robotic arm at all times and is responsible for performing all other aspects of the surgery such as the incision, surgical approach and wound closure.

Is robotic hip replacement better?

The scientific evidence suggests that robotic THR surgery has a number of advantages including improved accuracy and precision of bone preparation and prosthesis positioning. Studies have also shown:

  • Less post operative pain
  • Less post operative blood loss
  • Less bone loss during surgery
  • Faster recovery
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Lower incidence of leg length discrepancy
  • Reduced dislocation rate

Do medicare and private health funds cover robotic THR?

Yes robotic joint replacement surgery is covered by both medicare and private health funds. There is no additional out of pocket expense to you, the patient.

How much does robotic THR cost?

Robotic hip surgery is a highly specialised form of surgery which requires sophisticated equipment and extensive training. Dr Gomez provides this service at no additional cost to the patient compared to a standard total hip replacement.
